Now that summer’s over and we’re back to the old routine, maybe things are driving you a little crazy and looking grey. That’s normal and we can get it. But we also like the philosophy of Nobel Prize-winner Rabindranath Tagore – a very with-it sort of guy. He said, “'if you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars”. That’s the spirit! Summer’s over? No biggie. We have a fantastic fall full of challenges ahead of us. But because it can be a little complicated jumping on the optimist bandwagon, here are a few tips to face tomorrow with positivity.
    1. Eat healthier
You don’t have to go ovo-lacto vegetarian, but maybe try to a bit more attention to what crosses your lips. Like Hippocrates said, “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”.
    2. Exercise
Choose the best fit for your routine, fitness level, and personal taste. Solo jogging, tennis doubles, team soccer, a spinning class? Whatever’s healthy and fun for you!
    3. Write something
Who said nobody cares what you’re up to? Try a blog. Or even a simple letter to a friend, when was the last time you got some snail mail when it wasn’t your birthday? Put pen to paper and maybe make someone’s day!
    4. Try something new that you like
Horseback riding, baking cupcakes, perfecting your cocktail skills, or volunteering for an NGO... See if there is something you always wanted to try and try it – might be the start of a great adventure! Or at least a great story for your friends and family or that’s new blog you just started…

    5. Set aside more time for your friends and family
So much to do, so little time for friends. Remember to take care of them, too.
    6. Read
Mystery or thriller, the life story of your favorite singer, a blog post, or even your tea leaves... Whatever, whenever, get reading. In Mario Vargas Llosa’s words, learning to read "is the most important thing that has ever happened to me. Almost seventy years later I remember clearly how the magic of translating the words in books into images enriched my life”.
    7. Try to smile more
It can be hard, but here’s a little mind trick to get smiling. Watch a Youtube video of people laughing and you’ll end up laughing, too. Laughter really is contagious. It’s also attractive; couples who laugh together stay together longer.
    8. Change the world (or at least think about your part in it)
You don’t have to find a cure-all vaccine or endless source of food (though that would be nice). But you can change the world with small gestures. Remember the movie “Pay it Forward”? one small step for man….can mean a world changing moment somewhere!
    9. Above all, keep calm
If life overwhelms you sometimes, try to pause and unwind. Learn relaxation or breathing techniques to help you get the upper hand on stressful situations. Or occasionally take a glimpse out of the window see the sky and smile.
    10. The Brazilian approach
If none of that works, try the Brazilian approach: enjoy the little things you get from life and from friends. That’s the secret to true happiness.
