BALEARIC HOLIDAYS AT A HAVAIANAS PACE OF LIFE

This year, I’ve spent my holidays in one of the most amazing places in the Mediterranean: the Balearic Islands. If you fancy getting away for a bit, don’t miss out on my chosen route and some great tips and essential bits of info.

A trip through Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The perfect combination which encompasses it all: beach, partying, culture, gastronomy, sports.... So, the best footwear was my new pair of Havaianas Origine, with their perfect print, ideal for the historical streets of Ibiza and Palma, as well as for the beaches and heavenly coves.

The journey began in the biggest of the three islands. Its capital, Palma, is the city which has the most to offer in terms of leisure, gastronomy and culture. Apart from beaches and partying, the museums – such as the Joan Miró Foundation – are a must for art lovers. I found it amazing! And don’t forget to go for a stroll through the gothic quarters.

The beaches in Mallorca are simply sublime, as are all Balearic beaches. If what you are after is a wild beach, then head for Es Trenc.

After a week in Palma, we took the ferry to Ibiza. Although it is no longer the hippie island of the seventies that it was, it still has that special charm about it. Especially if you are able to visit during the non-summer months, don’t miss out on a stroll through the old quarters, with views on the bay, the shops and art galleries: a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As for the beaches, there are plenty to choose from. One of the most famous is Ses Salines. This is where you will find one of the most famous places to stop for something to eat: the Chi. And of course, don’t forget to visit Sa Trinxa, the island’s hippiest spot, the perfect place to have a mid-afternoon mojito.

Other perfect beaches to get lost on are: Es Cavallet, to have a stroll; and to end the day on the beach and enjoy the sunset in your swimsuit, your best bets are the Sa Comte and  Cap des Falcó coves, on the South side of the island, or Cala Salada in San Antonio.

And after dinner, it’s time to go and enjoy the world-renowned Ibiza night-scene. There are endless possibilities. As a result, one’s budget will be the defining factor, as it will dictate where one decides to go.

From Ibiza, we hopped over to spend the day in Formentera. It is the perfect island to get lost on and switch off.  Ideally, it’s best to go for a couple of days from Ibiza, taking the 45 minute ferry boat. The perfect plan in Formentera is to hire a motorbike or scooter and visit the island’s lighthouses. The Havaianas Origine are perfect on a motorbike or scooter!

On our bike we were able to stop by all the coves and beaches we found on the way. Many are not sign posted. They’re the best: the ones that are not to be found in guide books, where you will have more space and less noise.

Formentera is not very big so, ideally, it’s best to discover the island as you go along, enjoying all its surprises bit by bit.

These have been truly amazing holidays, the kind you never want to end. And I was so happy with my Origine espadrilles – comfortable every step of the way, on the beaches, motorbike or getting around town.
