Happy New Year!

Just take a moment and imagine you are welcoming 2018 on Copacabana Beach, surrounded by millions of people all dressed in white, with music all around, your feet in the sand and amazing fireworks that are reflected in the sea…. Sounds great, right? What are you waiting for? Make the dream come true!

The passage from one year to the next is a magical moment which, in our part of the world, we often celebrate sitting by a chimney fire, singing carols and making sure we keep snug and warm when we go out. In this blog we have already shown you that in some parts of the world people celebrate their summer during our own wintertime. One of these places is, of course, Brazil.

Just imagine swapping the colours of Christmas (the white of snow for the blue of the sea); imagine placing the prezzies under a palm tree rather than under the usual fir Christmas tree and replacing warm boots for your pair of Havaianas and matching sunglasses.... Don’t you just melt at the thought of that? Well, we invite you to celebrate the year’s end in the purest of Brazilian styles.

To welcome the New Year as Brazilians do, bear in mind there are some rituals to be followed: get yourself to the nearest Brazilian beach. Of course, Copacabana happens to be the most popular but others will do, like Búzios, Paraty, Ilha Grande or Salvador de Bahia. Once on the beach, you’ll be able to enjoy fireworks and dance to some smoking hot samba. As we’ve already had the chance to tell you, samba is the natural soundtrack for any Brazilian and it generates good vibes that spread to the four corners of the world. Here you can see what happens when Brazilian rhythms take over a crowd even if they happen to be in Rome.

Tradition would have you dress in white only if you wish to bring Peace into your life in the New Year, yellow if money is your thing, or red if you are looking for some passion. So, don’t forget to put all these colours in your suitcase as well as the tips we’ve passed on thanks to our fashion gurus, Esra Eren and Carolina Marimón. By the way, you’ll also have to dip in the sea, jump over the waves seven times and offer some flowers to Yemanja, the goddess of the sea and mother of all Orishas (gods). These Yoruba religion rituals will inundate you in iré or positive strength. Following the Yoruba traditions and that of their deities, you will feel the spirit of Brazil grow in you, attracting all the positive energy you need for 2018.

Can you feel it? Well, here is one last tip: as you are about to spend a few days in Brazil, let yourself be inspired by the vibrant colours of the city, as beautifully depicted by Brazilian artist Ricardo Negro in his works, and get lost in some of the impressive landscapes that the country has to offer, as recommended by Priscilla Goslin.

So now you know: this year, no chimneys or Christmas carols; go for some beach and batucada instead. And if you hope to have loads of sun, happiness and prosperity in 2018, Havaianas has created a special edition that features all these wishes on your flip-flops. That way you can’t forget about them and you will help them come true.
