After studying sculpture and drawing she moved to Paris in 1920 to continue her studies at the Académie Julian. Studying alongside other famous artists. It was in Paris she developed he signature style of vibrant colours capturing landscapes from her native Brazil as well as folkloric scenes familiar to the everyday lives of Brazilians. Tarsila is counted amongst the founding artists of the modernist art movement in Brazil in the 1920s. Her use of native themes and her own style encouraged Brazilian art to step away from the influences of other outside art styles and began the journey to a native Brazilian narrative. After the ground-breaking exhibition in New York in 2018, her home city of Sao Paulo will host its own retrospective to this pioneering artist at the MASP in April 2019. And in homage to this icon of art and female pioneer Havaianas has produced 3 Top models featuring some of her most famous works.
